Community

Community Matters... at the mall

Warringah Mall is proud to sponsor and support the following groups, and initiatives:

Variety - the children's charity

Variety is a charity dedicated to improving the lives of sick, disabled and disadvantaged children, by providing specialised equipment such as wheelchairs, Sunshine coaches, computer aided learing devices and Liberty Wheelchair swings. Throughout 2006 and earlier this year Warringah Mall  supported Variety with:

The Liberty Wheelchair Swing

The simple joy of a swing in the park is priceless, however for special needs children and adults this freedom comes with a steep price tag. With this in mind, Warringah Mall stepped in to raise $40,000 to purchase a Liberty Swing for the local area, the only one of its kind in the vicinity.

The eye catching design of the Liberty Swing was designed to blend into the colourful new Baranbali Playground in Seaforth. It not only caters for children in wheelchairs, but all children and adults with any disability that prevents them from using a standard swing. The swing has a secure locking device which is accessible with a MLAK key.

Installing this worthwhile piece of equipment has helped to fulfil the wishes of the late Alan Fender, a local businessman and Variety volunteer, whose dream was to work with Warringah Mall to raise money for a local swing. This has been realised with the generosity and support of the local community, who rallied with the Mall to raise the vital funds.

Starlight Children's Foundation

The Starlight Children's Foundation is a completely self funded charity, whose mission is to brighten the lives of children with chronic or life threatening illnesses and their families throughout Australia with a conprehensive "total" approach to care and healing environment that includes entertainment, diversion and laughter.

Bear Cottage

Bear Cottage is NSW's only children's hospice, located on the grounds of St Patrick's Estate, Manly in Sydney. Bear Cottage offer both respite and palliative care to children and young people with life limiting illnesses and their families.
